The Company Details

FBI_Company.jpgFree Bird Institute Limited is the brainchild of Mr. Hiroshi Taniguchi, a Japanese businessman and investor in Fiji, who sought to address the strong and growing need for English language tuition amongst the native Japanese population. Seeing Fiji as an exotic and ideal location for this, Mr. Taniguchi set out to create the Institute in his adopted homeland. Operations commenced in 2006 under the trading name “Namaka Public Free Bird Institute” before the institute was incorporated in 2010. Today, the Institute is recognized by the Ministry of Education and maintains two campuses, in Namaka, Nadi and in Lautoka.

Free Bird Institute is the first English institute in Fiji providing English classes only and the first in the education sector to be listed on the South Pacific Stock Exchange. Catering to over a thousand students each year from different countries, we primarily offer English language programmes to international students under the study-abroad programmes. The institute is a subsidiary Company of South Pacific Free Bird Co Ltd (SPFB), an LLC based in Tokyo, Japan and provides in-house insurance schemes, in-house foreign exchange for students from the Japanese market as it is a prime niche market for the Institute.

Free Bird Institute also manages a local public high school where Japanese students between the ages of 14 to 17 attend. We also provide English language teachers to two other local public high schools where Japanese students attend.

Recently, the institute received a recruitment license to send Fijian nationals to work overseas which has been successful
since its inception. To cement the inflow of Japanese students, who currently make up 98% of FBIL’s student roll, Mr. Taniguchi established the South Pacific Free Bird Co. Ltd operating out of Shinjuku, Tokyo. SPFB has since actively marketed FBIL’s services as an English language institute to Japan and other Asian countries.
